IVC Welcomes New Volunteer Program Manager

On June 13, 2022, April Avey (Trabucco) joined IVC as Manager of Volunteer Programs, replacing Robin Gaphni. Robin will stay connected to IVC as she continues running grief groups.

April has been an island resident and active member of the community since 2009. Prior to joining IVC, she served as Executive Director for Raising Resilience, Bainbridge Island’s parent support organization, where she facilitated education, resources, and connections to help families thrive.

“We are ecstatic to have April join us as our new Volunteer Program Manager,” said Joanne

Maher, IVC Executive Director, “April has all the important elements, the leadership and

communication skills, as well as the appreciation and compassion to lead and support our IVC

volunteers. Our island's population of people 65 years and older is quickly approaching 27

percent. She’ll be a wonderful addition to the team where she has some terrific new programs

and training opportunities that will help to strengthen our volunteer community in support of

elders living dignified, independent lives.”

Preceding Raising Resilience, April spent 20 years working with small and midsize nonprofits

spanning Washington and California. She led marketing and sales efforts for the Tony

Award-winning LORT theatre company, TheatreWorks, in Palo Alto, and managed sponsorships

and promotions for American Musical Theatre of San Jose; refined Seattle’s First Aid Arts’

development efforts; and gained financial support for San Jose Jazz and Mexican Heritage

Corporation as a grant writer. Finally, she provided marketing and development guidance as a

consultant for numerous arts, technology, medical, and human service organizations in the

Seattle and Silicon Valley regions. She also served on the Board of Directors for Ovation!

Performing Art Northwest.

In her new role with IVC, April will manage volunteer programs and assist with marketing and

communications.

“Joining IVC feels like a natural progression of the work I was doing with

parents and families through Raising Resilience. I’m so grateful that our community offers

essential services that go above and beyond to help individuals thrive. Navigating the aging

process with my own parents makes it clear that every community needs what IVC offers,”

stated Avey Trabucco.

April is looking forward to getting to know the IVC community and is eager to bring more

volunteers into the fold.
