About Us
Staff:
Kaycie Wood, Administrative Director
Kaycie Wood was born and raised in Southern California. She has two grown sons, living in California, along with her dad, 85. Kaycie has lived on the Island since 1989 and worked in Seattle, where she managed a non-profit employing people with disabilities. In 1996 Kaycie joined the Hospice of Kitsap County team, helping people to remain in their homes as they lived out their final days. She also has been a private caregiver on and off the island, and has enjoyed helping many families care for their loved ones over the years.
Kaycie has been working at IVC since 2005, starting in a 20-hour part-time position that blossomed into full time. Kaycie has a husband, Dave, who has a passion for flying (helicopters) and has made it his profession for over 20 years. Dave loves to volunteer when home and is one of our very-much-in-demand Seattle drivers. Kaycie and Dave have an aging, but happy dog, Lily, and a feisty, mischievous, younger cat named Earl. Spoiled rotten, both of them.
Karen Carson, Program Director
Karen has been an islander since 1980 when she and her husband and three children moved to Bainbridge Island from southern California. Presently two of her three children and spouses and all six grandchildren live on the island. The third lives in Seattle and is a social worker at Harborview Hospital. Karen was one of three women who began and led the Stephen Ministry Program at Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church, working in that program for 20 years. Before that time she was involved with Hospice of Kitsap County, visiting people who were terminally ill. Her passion is to be present with those who are in the later stages of their lives on earth.
Karen’s most fulfilling role, at this time, is support-group facilitation for women with cancer and for those who are caring for a loved one who is ill. Support groups create a sacred and safe place where people can be authentic and share their stories in a setting that is non-judgmental and confidential. Karen wholeheartedly believes in the healing power of presence and listening. She has been Program Director at IVC for the last two and a half years, loving her work with volunteers and care recipients and being constantly amazed at the generosity of time and energy freely given by people in our community. She truly believes that ‘Neighbors helping neighbors’ is what life is all about. In her free time, Karen enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, and reading and crocheting.
Bev Gaines, Bookkeeper, office administator
Bev Gaines moved to this area in 1980 and currently lives in Poulsbo. Bev has many years of experience as a bookkeeper and keeps books for some small businesses. Bev is also a Spiritual Director and owns a small business Soul Wisdom. Bev is excited to be part of IVC and believes in our mission for the community.
